Introducing Oregon City Chiropractor Dr. Jennifer Pitcairn

The Chiropractor To See In Oregon City

Thirty-three years ago something happened to me that changed my life forever. Let me tell you my story.

My mom was seeing a chiropractor for back pain. He asked her to bring her children in to be checked to see if they had a healthy spine and nervous system. I was nine years old at the time. He found that we needed chiropractic care to enhance our health and well-being.

I had always wanted to be a doctor since I was a young child. I studied pre-med at the University of California, Santa Cruz. After learning more about how the body worked, I decided to become a chiropractor to help others achieve health in a natural way.

I decided to go Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. This was where chiropractic was discovered, and the school has been around for over a 100 years. It was great to walk the same halls that many of the founding doctors of chiropractic. I was surprised how intense the schooling was. We took 30 or more credit terms per trimester! My favorite class was the history and philosophy of chiropractic.

I have been inspired by the chiropractic philosophy that I have learned. It is amazing to me how the body adapts to the stress that human beings are under. The body reacts by creating a subluxation, a misalignment of a bone that disrupts and irritates the nervous system. The nervous system controls all functions of our body. Therefore, the subluxation can cause problems with sensory (what people feel), the muscles and messages to the organs, blood vessels and glands. Our job as chiropractors is to remove this interference by adjusting the spine, allowing the body to heal itself.

Our practice is geared towards patients that want to get and stay well. We educate you on wellness practices so that you can live a healthy and vital life. I love working with the whole family. We have cared for pregnant moms, newborns, children, as well as adults and the elderly. Since I have cared for a lot of pregnant moms, I have had the privilege to check and adjust many newborn babies. Besides my children, the youngest child that I have adjusted was 3 days old! It has been wonderful to see these children grow with healthy spines and nervous systems.

I met my husband, Carey, at my best friends wedding. He is the brother of the man that my friend married. It was love at first sight, and we were married two years later. My best friend, Karine, is now my sister-in-law, since we married brothers! Carey is a carpenter and musician. He is busy with both careers.

We have a wonderful son named Jackson. He is currently five and half years old. He is in Kindergarten at Two Rivers Farm School. He loves it! He has a great imagination and also loves to sing like his dad.

We had a beautiful little girl, Jaylee, on Thanksgiving of 2007. She is now nearly two years old and is walking around, smiling all of the time. She loves playing with her big brother.

Life is busy with young children. I spend my days off enjoying the time with the family, and enjoying nature if possible.

I have been under chiropractic care since I was nine years old. I still get checked and adjusted if needed every one to two weeks. I check my family every two weeks as well. We strive to live a healthy lifestyle with eating well, exercising and thinking healthy thoughts. We eat mostly organic foods, with lots of fruits and vegetables. We eat healthy meat that is grass fed and free of antibiotics and growth hormones. We try to minimize grains, as they can cause inflammation in our bodies. Exercise is also a vital nutrient for our bodies. I am still working on incorporating exercise as a part of my daily routine. It is harder to find the time now that I have two children as well as a practice that I run. Prior to having the kids, I was active with rowing, jogging, and going to the gym. At one time I was active with rowing races, triathlons, adventure races, and even did the Portland Marathon in 1998.

I believe that if we give our bodies the proper building blocks with good food, water, and exercise, we can heal many illnesses that we have. I have not had a medication in more years than I can remember. I had wonderful home births with my children. Both of my kids are in excellent health!

Dr. Pitcairn Asks some important questions of interest to Oregon City residents - Chiropractor Oregon City Dr. Pitcairn Asks...

Can chiropractic cure a child's ear infections?
Chiropractic isn't a cure for anything. Nor is it a treatment for ear infections. However, many children who suffer with ear infections also suffer from spinal problems in their neck, compromising nerves to the ear, depressing the immune system and preventing proper drainage. Can chiropractic help? Find out!
What's the difference between maintenance, prevention and wellness?
Maintenance chiropractic care is an attempt to keep a dynamic, ever-changing and adapting organism (you) in a static relationship with your environment. Preventive chiropractic care is mostly about early detection. Wellness chiropractic care is an attempt to optimize our health and be all that you were designed to be.
